Ponds Amerika and Jadran

Both ponds belong to a vast system of ponds spread out in the Amerika forest park on the outskirts of Františkovy Lázně. The entire area with a maintained network of forest paths and rest areas serves primarily as a place of relaxation for visitors to the spa town. There is a beach by the pond, and a small zoo adds variety to the excursion atmosphere. The entire area is also a natural biotope where a large number of rare water birds nest.

Soos

The most visited nature reserve is 6 km from Františkovy Lázní. The area of the historic SOO forest with an area of 221 ha was declared a national nature reserve in 1964. The 1.2 km long trail presents a landscape full of bogs, bogs, and bubbling fountains, from which a large number of mineral springs spring. You can also visit the rescue station for injured animals and the paleontological exhibition, which includes life-sized prehistoric lizards.

Komorní hůrka

The national natural monument is only 3 km from Františkovy Lázně. It is one of the youngest extinct volcanoes in the Czech Republic with an area of 7.1 ha. In the deforested part of the hill, formed by volcanic material, there is an abandoned pit quarry, tunnel, and rock outcrops. The poet J. W. Goethe already showed an extraordinary scientific interest in it.

Bismarck Watchtower

The lookout tower named after the German chancellor Otto von Bismarck, which you can find on Zelená hora, is about 4 km west of Cheb. The 18 m high building replaced the original wooden building with a stone one and has been open since 2005.

Vildštejn

The Romanesque landmark is one of the oldest castles in the Czech Republic and is located 6 km from the town of Františkovy Lázně. Currently, you can visit the castle prison, a forge, a medieval banquet hall with a unique menu, a castle museum with a permanent exhibition reminding of local history, and a museum of firefighting equipment.

Seeberg

A Romanesque and Gothic castle only 5 km from Františkovy Lázně in the direction of Aš. Inside you will find an exhibition about the history of the castle and West Bohemian porcelain, while in the surrounding farm buildings, you can learn more about folk crafts and agriculture.

Kynžvart

The classicist castle whose history is connected with the Metternich family is located in the Karlovy Vary region in the spa triangle. It is 29 km from Františkovy Lázně. The castle is surrounded by a vast English park with small buildings. Inside, the cabinet of curiosities with several Egyptian mummies will attract attention.

Cheb

One of the oldest cities with a historic center and a city monument reserve. The first written mention dates back to 1061. Here you will find several important monuments – starting with the Cheb castle, King Jiřího z Poděbrady square, where the famous Špalíček is divided by a narrow street, Kramářská street, or the church of St. Nicholas and a view of the entire city from it. We recommend a walk along Ohře through the landscape exhibition towards Skalka.

Starý Hrozňatov – Loreta

The village of Starý Hrozňatov is 16 km from the town of Františkovy Lázně. A walk through maple alley will take you to the most visited Maria Loreto pilgrimage site and the church of St. Spirit. We owe the restoration of this place to local native Anton Hart, who wanted to re-strengthen the severed Czech-German ties.

Loket

A town on a prominent rocky promontory with a magnificent medieval castle and surrounded by the Ohří River on three sides, approximately 37 km from the town of Františkovy Lázně. It has a nice square with a baroque column of the Holy Trinity and several historic bourgeois houses. It is here, on the terrace of the White Horse Hotel, that Johann Wolfgang Goethe is said to have proposed to Ulrika von Lewetzov
