Lookout tower “ladder to heaven”

The 20 m high Ladder to Heaven (Himmelsleiter, 475 m a.s.l.) is a completely extraordinary vantage point. It is neither a tower nor does it stand on any hill. This gate-shaped stair system with slender steel struts preserves airy transparency to the surrounding landscape and guarantees a unique viewing experience. Almost as if from a bird’s eye view, the visitor gets an overview of the unique cultural landscape, which has been shaped and influenced by fish farming for almost 1,000 years. With around 4,700 tanks of various sizes, the fish farmers in the Tirschenreuth pond basin specialized mainly in carp, but also pike and tench, and perfected their breeding.
